Summary
One of our project managers led a large global security and awareness training project for a major manufacturing company.
The project lasted nearly a year and involved the management of a large third-party vendor.
What did we do?
Our role was to manage the whole project during the full-life cycle of delivery. Our team member acted as the project manager and subject matter expert on security training and awareness development and deployment.
What was delivered?
The project consisted of the following:
Design and Development of Training Materials
The initial phase of the project involved conducting a comprehensive training needs analysis across the global workforce. This identified what was currently in place and what additional requirements needed to be implemented.
Our resource led a procurement exercise to pick a training development partner to produce the online training.
Deployment
After the training was produced, the next challenge was to deploy it across multiple regions and countries in multiple different languages.
The deployment took over 6 months to complete but concluded with all information workers receiving security awareness training.
The Benefits
The core benefit was a reduced risk of cyber attacks, as employees became more aware of potential threats and the proper processes and procedures to mitigate them.
Lessons Learned
The following key lessons were learned:
- Senior leadership struggle to allocate the time to security matters until they have an incident
- Training solutions vary in functionality and procurement can be more complex than it may otherwise seem.
- Creating training materials for multiple countries is very time consuming so defaulting to English is preferable but not always achievable.
